REHOMING

I want to rehome my pet

We understand that facing the decision to give up your pet can be heartbreaking and especially difficult. We realize that there are some circumstances that may prevent you from being able to keep your pet and we're committed to working with you to ensure the best possible solution.

Our primary goal is to be a resource to our community and find a way to keep families together whenever possible.

Do you need access to a trainer or behaviorist? Do you need food, veterinarian care, or resources to help you care for your pet? Do you need a temporary caregiver or reprieve, but would like to maintain ownership of your pet? Please contact us to see if we can help in your unique situation.

If it is in your pet's best interest to rehome them, we recommend first reaching out to your network of friends and family or utilizing an online rehoming resource like Home To Home™. We believe that pets that need a new home do best if they can be transitioned directly from their current home to a new, loving home and avoid the stress of a stay in an animal shelter. You love your pet, you know your pet, and no one is better suited to find their next family.

Home To Home™ is an online interactive pet placement platform that helps pet owners find new homes (permanent or temporary) for their pets . Rehoming your pet this way allows them to stay at home in familiar surroundings while you select the home that you think will be best for them. Home To Home™ can be used to rehome any type of pet (i.e. birds, bunnies, hamsters, horses, goats, etc.)

While we take in cats and dogs surrendered to us by the public, we do have limited space and may have a waiting list.  We are a no-kill shelter and do not euthanize animals for space or length of time in the shelter. However, every animal must pass a behavioral and medical evaluation in order to be put up for adoption. All surrenders are by appointment only, so call us before bringing an animal to the facility.

Before you come for your appointment:

  1. Download and complete the Dog Surrender Form* or Cat Surrender Form*

  2. Bring the following with you to the appointment:

    • Completed Surrender Form

    • Your pet’s veterinary records

    • A description of your animal's habits, behavior, likes, and dislikes that will assist us in finding the right home.

*If you do not have a printer, you may arrive 15 minutes early to your appointment to complete this form.

FEES

Fees for surrendering dogs and cats are the same:

Animals that are spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccinations - $50.00

Animals that are spayed/neutered and not up to date on vaccinations - $75.00

Animals that are unaltered and not up to date on vaccinations - $100.00

Last year, more than 95% of the animals in our care were placed in forever homes. The cost to care for and rehome pets can be hundreds of dollars for each animal. The surrender fee helps subsidize this cost.
